Be the Boss of Your Thoughts
Character U offers interactive, engaging and educational assemblies and author visits bringing social-emotional learning and character development concepts to life in a fun, age-appropriate and memorable way.
Empower children with positive self-talk, resilience, mindfulness, bully prevention and many more skills preparing them to thrive in today's complex world. We use puppetry, role-playing, music, The Adventures of Ooga and Zeeta book plus some other surprises to keep the students engaged.
There are three versions of the assembly, usually split as K-2nd, 3rd-5th and 6th-8th graders to meet the students where they are. Each assembly session is approximately 45 minutes.
Children who have the skills to feel good on the inside, are more likely to do well on the outside and treat each other with respect, kindness and appreciate people's differences.
Through the assembly experience, children and educators learn important tools that can be used well beyond the school visit. Resources and workshops are also available for parents and teachers to ensure long-lasting learning and to build a positive school climate and improve learning conditions.
During an author visit, I share my journey of how I became an author. Some of the topics include my inspiration for writing my book, the writing process, working with an illustrator and getting published. I find that students have meaningful questions so I make sure I leave time for question and answer time.
